The 26-year-old has not played for the Canaries since a 1-1 draw against Everton at Goodison Park on November 24 after needing surgery on a torn thigh muscle.
But he played a second full match in the Barclays Under-21 Development League defeat on Monday night at Bolton, and impressed with a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory.
Ruddy, who was part of the England Euro 2012 squad, now looks likely to reclaim his starting place for Saturday's vital Barclays Premier League clash against bottom club Reading at Carrow Road.
Norwich senior professional development coach Scott Marshall told the club's official website: "John was on form and made a couple of good stops. He is getting there definitely.
"I am sure he will be pleased with the match action he got and it is another one on the road to getting back to full fitness."
Chris Hughton's side looked on course for a famous win against Arsenal on Saturday, but conceded three late goals to leave the Emirates empty-handed.
Norwich, who currently sit four points above the drop zone, also look set to welcome back Anthony Pilkington and Wes Hoolahan as they bid to secure their Premier League survival.
