The striker has been officially unveiled as a Hull player at the KC Stadium, and he vowed to repay Tigers boss Steve Bruce for believing in his ability.
Jelavic made only a handful of appearances under Roberto Martinez at Everton, and he is confident of getting back among the goals and earning a place in the Croatia squad for the summer showpiece in Brazil.
"I'm under pressure straight away. But I'm a striker, I need goals and I will score goals, I know that," he said.
"I just need some games. It's a decent club and I think I can help the team. I'm delighted to sign here.
"My move from Everton to here was because of the national team as well. This summer is the World Cup and I have to play if I want to be involved with the team.
"I'll try to score as many goals as I can and show to the national team manager that he can count on me."
The arrival of Jelavic and expected signing of Shane Long have spelled the end of Gedo's loan spell with the Tigers.
The club have confirmed that the Egyptian forward's season-long loan from Al Ahly had been cut short, while Aaron McLean has completed his transfer to League One Bradford.
