The Hammers have added several new faces so far this window, with boss Sam Allardyce admitting last week that there would be no more business before the deadline.
However, Allardyce lost defender Joey O'Brien to a dislocated shoulder earlier this week, which is likely to rule him out for the rest of the season.
And the under-pressure boss has moved quickly to replace the stricken full-back, with Armero, 27, coming in until the end of the current campaign.
He goes into the squad for West Ham's crucial clash with Swansea on Saturday.
Earlier, Allardyce told Sky Sports: "If we do do any more business, it will probably be one more deal on loan.
"That's the only thing we're waiting for, for today."
Asked if this would rule out Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott, he replied: "Yes it looks like that.
"We've concentrated on this one, it's down to the injuries we got on Wednesday night so we're trying to replace those injuries with a defensive player and he will be from abroad, I can tell you that."
Asked if this is Armero, Allardyce said with a smile: "Not disclosing any names, maybe."
