Transfer news: Sean Dyche still hoping to bolster Burnley ranks

Sean Dyche is 'getting closer' to new arrivals at Burnley but has pointed out that he will not be paying over the odds for any player.

Premier League action returns to Turf Moor on August 18, with a home date against Chelsea, and the transfer window will slam shut on September 1.

That means Dyche must act quickly if he is to bolster his ranks and ensure Burnley are competitive among English football’s elite.

We have to work within the market, keep nipping away at it and wait for things to develop rather than throwing massive money at situations to make them develop.

Numerous names – including Craig Dawson and Henri Lansbury – have been linked with late summer switches, but Dyche acknowledges that he must remain patient and prudent in his pursuit of fresh faces.

He said: “We’re still looking to add to the group.

“There’s a few getting closer and closer and we’re working hard to get them over the line. The frustration is that for 18 months we had no real money to speak of that we could use in the market.

“Now we have some money but the market is running away from us again because we have the smallest budget in the Premier League.

“There has to be a reality to our financial planning of course, so it’s difficult to just throw money at situations to get them over the line.

“We have to work within the market, keep nipping away at it and wait for things to develop rather than throwing massive money at situations to make them develop.

“We’ve got a wider scope for deals now for players, this is the Premier League, this is mind-blowing numbers for certain clubs.

“That’s the challenge, to formulate a group of players that can play with the quality and desire which we insist on to go and win football matches, and do it all within certain parameters and guidelines and the budgetary requirements of the club.”

Dyche added: “We still are short and the difference is in the Championship we all know you can go out and activate the loan system when the main window shuts.

“In the Premier League you can’t, so we definitely need bodies in.”
