Martin's Starting Stats

Chelsea are 19 points better off than they were after 14 games of last season and they have the best win record of any Premier League club at Manchester City: P20 W12 D2 L6.

I was at the Etihad on Saturday to see Diego Costa score for the first time in the league against City and they were also his first goals against a Pep Guardiola team. Eden Hazard also got his first goal against Man City.

Gary Cahill's own goal was City's 49th goal in all competitions this season and Kelechi Iheanacho scored the 50th against Celtic on Tuesday. Willian scored the 200th league goal Chelsea have ever scored against Man City.

Manchester City 1 - 3 Chelsea

City won their first games in all 10 competitions but have won just 4 in 14 since then.

Guardiola won the Super Cup against Chelsea with Bayern and won and lost Champions League semi-finals with Barcelona. After Saturday, he still hasn't beaten Chelsea inside 90 minutes.

Kevin De Bruyne's first defeat ended his run of 22 unbeaten Premier League games - and his miss contributed to that.

The win sealed a unique double for N'Golo Kante who has now won 3-1 at the Etihad twice this year. He has also won 23 Premier League matches in 2016.

Winning runs

Which club has the longest winning streak in Premier League history? How far away are Chelsea from the record? Paul, London

MARTIN SAYS: Chelsea's 3-1 win at Manchester City on Saturday made it eight successive wins in the Premier League for Antonio Conte's men.

However, they are still six wins from matching the Premier League record for consecutive wins which is held by Arsenal, who managed 14 consecutive victories which ended on August 18, 2002.

After drawing with Southampton on February 2, 2002, Arsene Wenger's side won the final 13 matches of the 2001/02 season to win the title in dramatic fashion. They beat Birmingham in the first game of the next season before the run ended with a 2-2 draw at West Ham.

Chelsea's best winning run in the Premier League ended on September 20, 2009 on 11 games and the current crop will need wins against West Brom, Sunderland and Crystal Palace to equal that record.

If Conte's side continue their winning run into January they could equal the record with victory against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on January 4, while the game to break the record would be against champions Leicester at the King Power Stadium on January 14.

Here's a list of the longest winning runs in Premier League history…

Two up and losing

Have Liverpool ever been two goals in front at half-time and lost before? What about other teams? Adam, Newcastle

Bournemouth 4-3 Liverpool

MARTIN SAYS: According to Opta, Liverpool's defeat by Bournemouth was just the second time in Premier League history they'd let a two-goal half-time lead turn into a defeat. The first, in fact, came earlier this year at St Mary's when they lost 3-2 against Southampton.

They have led by two or more goals at half-time on 124 occasions in Premier League history and only lost two of those - and both have come under Jurgen Klopp in 2016 on the south coast.

West Ham have lost from a two-goal advantage at the interval more than any other side, having been beaten on four of the 47 occasions they've done so (winning 35, drawing one). They did this against Wimbledon (losing 4-3 in 1998), Tottenham (4-3 in 2007), Manchester United (4-2 in 2011) and Wigan (3-2 in 2011).

Tottenham have lost three times from a two-goal half-time lead, while also losing once from a three-goal lead, in a famous 5-3 encounter against Manchester United in 2001.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have had three defeats in 146 matches they have led by two or more goals at half-time, while Manchester City have lost three of 84.

Chelsea have led by 2+ goals at the break on 111 occasions and only lost once and Manchester United have never lost in the Premier League when they have led by 2+ goals at half-time (151 occasions).

United have also still not lost at home when leading by any score at half-time in the Premier League. That's 254 games (W240 D14). Their last home league defeat when leading at half-time was against Ipswich in 1984.

Deadly in December

Which player has scored the most PL goals in December? George, Leeds

MARTIN SAYS: With the help of our friends from Opta, we've come up with a list of the top 10 goalscorers in December in the Premier League era.

Way out in front is Alan Shearer - the leading goalscorer in Premier League history - who scored 39 goals in 57 games in December during his Premier League career. He is six goals ahead of Robbie Fowler (33 goals in 64 games).

There's still time for Wayne Rooney (31 goals in 68 games) and Jermain Defoe (24 goals in 66 games) to creep up the list, while Dimitar Berbatov also enjoyed the month, scoring 23 goals in 37 games.

Midfielders Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard cannot be separated on 23 goals in December, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored 22 in an impressive 37 games and Andy Cole managed 21 in 60 games.

Rounding off the top 10 are Michael Owen and Thierry Henry, who both scored 21 goals in December.

Penalty kings

Does Leighton Baines have the best penalty conversion rates in PL history? Gary, north London

Everton 1-1 Manchester Utd

MARTIN SAYS: Leighton Baines' late penalty against Manchester United was the 17th he had scored in 19 attempts in the Premier League. David de Gea saved one and the other one which is down as a miss is one which hit the post and hit Shay Given on the head before going in against Stoke this season. An identical incident wouldn't count as a miss in the shoot-out, so I don't see why he hasn't been awarded that goal!

Despite that impressive return, Baines is still just joint 12th in terms of conversion rate in the Premier League, having netted 89.47% of his spot-kicks (minimum 10 penalties taken).

Matt Le Tissier is out on his own at the top of the list, having netted 25 of his 26 Premier League penalties (96.15%), ahead of Danny Murphy's 18 in 19 (94.74%) and James Beattie (16 in 17, 94.12%).

Five stars

When was the last time Arsenal and Tottenham both scored five Premier League goals on the same day? Theo, Enfield

Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player

West Ham 1-5 Arsenal

MARTIN SAYS: This is the first time since the inception of the Premier League in 1992 that both of the north London rivals have netted five times on the same day.

The last time this happened in the English top-flight was in September 21, 1991, when Arsenal thumped Sheffield United 5-2 at Highbury, while Spurs won 5-3 at Wimbledon.

Both teams did nearly reach five goals on one day when they played each other at White Hart Lane in November 2004. Spurs just missed out, however, as Arsenal ran out 5-4 winners on that day. That remains one of the best games I've commentated on.
