Granit Xhaka was sent off for the ninth time in three years during Arsenal's dramatic 2-1 win over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.
The Switzerland international was shown a straight red card for a studs-up lunge on Burnley's Steven Defour shortly after Shkodran Mustafi had scored the opening goal.
It almost proved costly as substitute Francis Coquelin conceded a penalty from which Burnley equalised in the 93rd minute, but Alexis Sanchez netted a dramatic winner five minutes later after Arsenal were awarded a penalty of their own.
The win took Arsenal up to second in the Premier League table, but Xhaka is now facing a four-game suspension as it was his second red card for the Gunners this season.
As questions over Xhaka's discipline resurface, we take a look back at his lengthy red-card rap sheet, with the player having now been dismissed more times than any other player in Europe's top five divisions since the start of last season:
April 19, 2014: Freiburg v Borussia Monchengladbach, Bundesliga
Xhaka was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Frieburg's Felix Klaus midway through the second half. The scores were level at 1-1 when he trudged down the tunnel, but Gladbach were immediately punished. Frieburg scored twice in quick succession, with the game ending in a 4-2 defeat.
November 22, 2014: Borussia Monchengladbach v Eintracht Frankfurt
Xhaka had been out for a month with an injury when Gladbach hosted Eintracht Frankfurt in November 2014, but his return to action ended with two yellow cards in a 3-1 defeat. The midfielder received his first booking for protesting after his headed goal was ruled out for offside, and he was given his marching orders for a foul shortly afterwards.
February 26, 2015: Borussia Monchengladbach v Sevilla
Xhaka started this Europa League tie by cancelling out Carlos Bacca's opening goal, but his evening ended prematurely as he received a second yellow card in the 68th minute. It was 2-2 at that point with Gladbach needing two more goals to go through after losing 1-0 in the first leg, but Sevilla made it 3-2 to clinch a 4-2 aggregate victory.
August 30, 2015: Werder Bremen v Borussia Monchengladbach
In only the third Bundesliga game of the 2015/16 campaign, Xhaka was shown a second yellow card for a high kick on Assani Lukimya-Mulongoti in Gladbach's penalty area. Bremen missed the resulting spot kick but they were already 2-1 up and they held on for the win.
November 7, 2015: Borussia Monchengladbach v Ingolstadt
Xhaka received his first booking in the 18th minute before he was sent off for a second yellow card in the closing stages. The hosts had to play the final four minutes with 10 players, and the game ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw.
December 20, 2015: Borussia Monchengladbach v Darmstadt
Xhaka was shown a straight red card after just 38 minutes for needlessly kicking out at Peter Niemeyer after the Darmstadt man pulled him back. Gladbach were 1-0 down at the time, but they went on to win 3-2 despite the absence of their captain.
September 6, 2016: Switzerland v Portugal
Xhaka's only red card in international football came during World Cup qualifying last year, when he was given a second booking for a rash tackle on Portugal's Joao Mario in injury time. Fortunately for Switzerland, they were already 2-0 up and held on for the win.
October 15, 2016: Arsenal v Swansea
Xhaka's first sending off for Arsenal came in their meeting with Swansea in October, when he cynically tripped Modou Barrow to halt a counter-attack. It made for a nervous finale for Arsene Wenger's side, but they held on to their 3-2 advantage to claim the win.
January 22, 2017: Arsenal v Burnley
That brings us to red card number nine. Xhaka did not make heavy contact with Burnley midfielder Defour, but referee Jonathan Moss showed the straight red card after consulting his linesman. The Arsenal man's studs were showing and he was adjudged to have both feet off the ground.
