Transfer Targets - Tottenham

Strikers are rumoured to be Spurs' priority but who might they sign? We pick some possible buys.

MIRKO VUCINIC

Age: 30
Nationality: Montenegro
Club: Juventus
Position: Forward
Estimated Value: £8m
Alternative Targets: Alexandre Pato (Corinthians), Christian Benteke (Aston Villa) & Javier Hernandez (Manchester United) Reports suggest Arsenal met with Juventus bosses with a view to bringing Mirko Vucinic to England earlier in January but the Italian club are unwilling to settle for a loan deal. Derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur could therefore take advantage and, given the Montenegro international is the wrong side of 30 years old, a bid in the region of just £8million could secure a transfer. Vucinic is not getting in the Juventus side due to the successful partnership of Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente but his versatility would make him a major asset for any club. With Jermain Defoe having left Tottenham and Roberto Soldado not setting the world alight since his summer arrival, a striker could be at the top of Spurs' list of targets.

STEVEN FLETCHER

Age: 26
Nationality: Scotland
Club: Sunderland
Position: Striker
Estimated Value: £10m
Alternative Targets: Neilton (Santos) & Valmir Berisha (Halmstads) Steven Fletcher possesses undoubted ability as a goalscorer and that is a precious commodity in the Premier League. That, combined with relegation-threatened Sunderland's struggles this season, mean the Scotland international has already been linked with the likes of Hull City, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham. Tottenham are also reported to be in the market for at least one striker and Fletcher has been rumoured to be a target. His injury problems at Sunderland mean they would do well to recoup the £12million they paid Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2012 and it was even reported Celtic have tried their luck with a bid as little as £6m. If Tottenham are looking for a reasonably-priced striker with experience of England's top flight, they could do a lot worse than Fletcher.

ALVARO MORATA

Age: 21
Nationality: Spain
Club: Real Madrid
Position: Striker
Estimated Value: £1.2m loan fee / £9m permanent
Alternative Targets: Mohamed Salah (Basel), Alexandre Pato (Corinthians), Salomon Kalou (Lillie) & Javier Hernandez (Manchester United) Another forward and Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata is one who has been linked with almost every Premier League club. Again, Arsenal are rumoured to be Tottenham's main rivals for the youngster, who, unlike Vucinic and Fletcher, has long-term potential. Spaniard Morata was top scorer at last summer's European Under 21 Championship and his contract expires in 2015. It seems unlikely he will stay at Real when all reports suggest he is unhappy with his fringe role with the Primera Liga giants. Real are also rumoured to be lining up a signing of a big-name striker this summer, which would push Morata even further out of the frame.

ALEXANDER BUTTNER

Age: 24
Nationality: Netherlands
Club: Manchester United
Position: Left-Back
Estimated Value: £4.5m With the right-footed Kyle Naughton or centre-back Jan Vertonghen having had to fill in at left-back when Danny Rose has been unavailable, it is clear Tottenham need cover in that area. At the same time, it has even been rumoured Naughton could be on his way out of White Hart Lane in January. Alexander Buttner has therefore been reported as a target and he is said to be frustrated at Manchester United, where he has started only one Premier League match this season. With United expected to sign a left-back themselves this month, Buttner would find himself further out of contention and could be seeking a move to get his career back on track.
