David Beckham returns to Old Trafford to play in a charity match

David Beckham is looking forward to the chance to walk out at Old Trafford again next month after organising a major charity game for UNICEF.

Beckham has been a UNICEF ambassador for 10 years and he will be back alongside former manager Sir Alex Ferguson for the first time since their somewhat acrimonious split in 2003.

The Scotsman accidentally kicked a boot that struck the former England captain above his left eye during a dressing room incident, and three months later Ferguson sold Beckham to Real Madrid.

But Beckham said Ferguson took little persuading to take part in the Match For Children, which will see Beckham captain a Great Britain and Ireland XI against a World XI managed by his Real coach Carlo Ancelotti.

"Bringing the boss back to the dugout means so much to so many people and thankfully we will be doing that," said Beckham, who was hosting a press call at Old Trafford.

"I spoke to him personally and he was more than happy to [get involved].

"My relationship with the manager was always great despite what people say, despite the couple of ups and downs which we had.

"For Manchester United fans to see the manager back in the dugout is a dream. So thankfully we are going to be doing that. I think that's one of the reasons we've had so much support from fans all over the world wanting to see the manager back and it's a dream."

When asked about the famous flying boot incident, Beckham smiled and said: "Maybe it's one of the things we can recreate. Someone mentioned that to me the other day. We will see."

Beckham revealed 60,000 tickets for the November 14 match had been sold inside four days and he is now just counting down the days until he can lace his boots up for another big Old Trafford date.

"It's always a privilege to come to this stadium, and a privilege running out on to the field. When I was a young kid it was all I ever dreamt about, playing for Manchester United," he said.

"I was lucky enough to do it for many years, to be successful, winning Premierships, FA Cups and European Cups, and it never gets old.

"I always find it very emotional, I always wonder if it will be the last time I play at Old Trafford. I'm pretty fit still, pretty fit. I try to keep myself fit, but match fit we'll see when it actually comes to it.

"[Hosting the game] here was obviously my personal No 1 choice because I spent so many years here as a Manchester United player and supported the club since I was four or five years old.

"So to have it here would have been a dream so to actually have the support of Manchester United I have to say a big thank you to [the club]. To have a game here is something that is very special and sacred so thanks a lot."

The Match for Children will kick off at 3.00pm local time on Saturday, November 14 2015. Tickets from £20 (Adults) & £10 (Under-16s) now on sale at www.manutd.com/tickets
