The former York City youngster was voted United`s best reserve team player of last season but Sir Alex Ferguson has lost patience with the player after he refused to agree a new deal at Old Trafford.
"We`re going to listen to offers for Jonathan Greening now," said the United boss. "We offered him a new deal last summer as we do with all our young players who come through and do well.
"Unfortunately, when young players emerge they start looking for better contracts. It`s best to say, at this stage, he can go if that is his choice. It has got the point where we will now listen to offers.
"It`s disappointing because he`s going to be a very good player, but that`s life," he told the Manchester Evening News.
After an impressive display in The Worthington Cup against Spurs and a place in the Champions Cup winning squad against Bayern Munich, the future looked bright for Greening under Ferguson. However, the manager has made his stand and now the player must decide whether to accept the deal on offer or face the inevitable prospect of moving to a less glamorous club.
