BARNSLEY EYE UNITED YOUNGSTER

BARNSLEY are looking at Manchester United youngster Richard Wellens, with a view to bringing him to Oakwell.

The classy midfielder actually appeared for Dave Bassett`s reserve team, against United, during the FA Premier Reserve League fixture on Thursday evening. He played his part in a surprise 2-1 victory for the home side.

At 19, Wellens is pressing for regular first team football - something he will clearly be unlikely to get at Old Trafford. An England Youth international, he clearly has potential that may be best served by a move elsewhere.

Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to rate the player highly but Bassett could try to set up a deal before the transfer deadline.

United`s Jonathan Greening (pictured), meanwhile, did his hopes of a swift move the power of good, with a stunning volleyed goal during the match.

Very much in the shop window, the transfer-listed wide man has been looked at by a number of clubs.
