Wilson believes that at 21 he needs regular starting appearances under his belt, something that with the plethora of talent ahead of him at Old Trafford would seem to be difficult at this time.
The midfielder has played ten times for The Reds but with interest from Ipswich, Sunderland and Fulham, Wilson knows he has options should he decide to leave.
Wilson said: "My idea when I had the injury was to come back a better player. I wasn't in the England Under-21s before but I have come back and got straight in, so that says something.
"I worked hard to get myself fit and came back probably a fitter and stronger player so it's frustrating not to get a chance with United when I had got one before.
"And it's also frustrating when you come away with Under-21s and they are all playing in their first teams week in, week out.
"It makes me wonder what it would feel like playing every week and wherever that may be I will be happy to do that.
"I am competing against world-class players like Paul Scholes and Roy Keane - and Nicky Butt has had a fantastic season - so it is hard.
"I suppose the gaffer has to realise at some stage I would want to leave, get out and play first-team football.
"I have learned a hell of a lot in the five years I have been there. I played in the year we won the treble - it was only one game but I will take that with me anywhere.
"I will have a nice choice and will have to think long and hard before I make a decision."
Jonathon Greening has been linked to Preston along with the clubs interested in Wilson and patience in Sir Alex Ferguson's heralded youth team seems to be wearing thin.
