The Argentinian international has always admitted an admiration for La Liga and, despite numerous conflicting stories over the past year or so, if he does leave Italy it is likely to be in order to join Real Madrid or Barcelona.
The arrival of Nelson Vivas, signed on a Bosman free transfer, is seen by some as a signal that his Argentinian team-mate will be on his way, although Hector Cuper, the man due to take charge at Inter next term, should want to have both players in his squad.
Indeed, Zanetti has welcomed Vivas's signing, with the former Arsenal man stating that he can play in the same side as his friend.
Spanish sources claim Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea have all tabled offers to Inter and all are attractive to the player.
United were in for Zanetti last summer, and have a long-standing interest in the South American, while Arsenal have other options, including Real's Geremi, and Chelsea seem to be focusing mainly on the centre of their midfield.
Agent Jorge Oliva is gauging the level of interest in his client and has held discussions with Real's Jorge Valdano, with Real firm favourites to sign the 27-year-old.
A firm decision on his future is expected before the start of Copa America, when he will be in action for Argentina.
