JUVE SEAL THURAM SIGNING

LILIAN THURAM has agreed to join Juventus in a £22 million move and is expected to be unveiled at the Delle Alpi later in the week.

Despite weekend British tabloid reports suggesting the Parma star was set to join Manchester United, news from Italy on Monday confirmed that the Premiership champions were beaten to the signing of the much sought after French defender.

Lazio also agreed a fee for the 29-year-old but, when The Red Devils were out of the running for the player, it became clear that he would choose to join his compatriots Zinedine Zidane and David Trezeguet at Juventus.

Thuram may be revealed in conjunction with new coach Marcello Lippi, who is set to be brought in as Carlo Ancelotti's replacement after the former Italian international's sacking on Sunday evening.

The French defender is thought to have agreed a contract worth in the region of £2.2 million a year.

During Thuram's five-year stay at the Ennio Tardini the Frenchman picked up a Uefa Cup and Coppa Italia winners medals but became disillusioned with Gialloblu's incapability to sustain a title challenge.
