BLANC UP FOR GRABS?

LAURENT BLANC has not joined his Internazionale team-mates for training, sparking speculation that the French libero is set to seal an emotional return to Marseille.

The veteran defender has also attracted attention from Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in the past, and would be tempted by a link-up with great friend Fabien Barthez at Old Trafford, but The Red Devils would need to move quickly in order to prevent the 35-year-old moving to the south of France.

Although stating his intention to remain at Giuseppe Meazza, the fact that Hector Cuper looks likely to call upon Ivan Cordoba and Marco Materazzi to form the heart of his defence is causing Blanc to ponder other options.

The former Montpellier man has met officials and wants to be released with compensation being forthcoming from Inter, but the Serie A side are reluctant to meet these demands.

Monaco boss Didier Deschamps who, like Ferguson, is on the look-out for a defender, could make an offer for his former international colleague, but Marseille are definitely in the hunt for their former player.

A bid to sign Milan's Jose Antonio Chamot has stalled, allowing Tottenham to join the bidding, with Italian sources claiming a £2 million move to White Hart Lane is being discussed by the two clubs.

L'OM are assessing alternative options, although they are still keen on the Argentinian stopper, and midfielder Agostinho has arrived at Stade Velodrome on trial.
