The recall ends a five month spell out of the squad for the former Ajaz and Real Madrid ace and Rangers defender Fernando Ricksen, Celtic winger Bobby Petta and Vitesse Arnhem striker Viktor Sikora are also included in the party.
Van Gaal has not called on any of the Spanish based players as they have domestic duty this week and he is without PSV Eindhoven star Mark van Bommel through injury.
Holland are out of the running for qualification, but van Gaal has refused to experiement by not including highly-rated Under-21 duo Rafael van der Vaart of Ajax and Theo Janssen of Vitesse Arnhem.
There had been calls for van Gaal to include the two young starlets, but he has decided to resist temptation as both have a key role to play for the Dutch Under-21s as they try to win qualification for the European Championships.
"I believe that this squad is young but still fairly experienced," said van Gaal. "Those who are next in line and who have already come to the fore will also have to perform for the Under-21s.
"They are in a qualification tournament and can still win something. Players like Van der Vaart and Janssen could show the way."
