Addicks to compete for Purse

ARSENAL could face late competition for long-term target Darren Purse, with Charlton Athletic considering a £3 million move for the influential Birmingham City defender.

Purse has long been linked to a move to Highbury and his rejection of a new contract has led to suggestions that he will be sold before deadline day this season as The Blues look to cash in early.

Another player who could soon be leaving the club is veteran full back David Burrows, who has reportedly been suspended by the club after a training ground bust-up with manager Steve Bruce.

The player has been sent to train with Kidderminster, and may well seek a route out of the club - where he was languishing in the reserves.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have been watching Blues starlet Darren Carter.

The England Under-19 international has just broken through to the Birmingham first-team, but apparently impressed Sir Alex Ferguson during an FA Youth Cup clash earlier this year.
