The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international made a £4.5 million move to the St. Andrews club from Division One side Crystal Palace last week but went down in his Blues debut at the Britannia Stadium with a suspected hamstring problem.
He came on in the second half and shortly after was injured following a challenge in the Stoke penalty box as Birmingham ran out 2-0 winners over their Midlands rivals.
However, Bruce revealed Morrison's problem was not as serious and that he will be available for the start of the new season on August 17.
A relieved Bruce said: "Thankfully it doesn't look very serious. We thought he had done his hamstring, but that's not the case.
"He's got a dead leg and hopefully will be back on Monday or Tuesday.
"That's quite a relief after spending so much money on a player then seeing him get carried off."
Meanwhile, The Blues have been linked with a move for Manchester United's out-of-favour defender David May.
The 32-year-old centre half has been left in the shadows with Laurent Blanc and £30 million signing Rio Ferdinand available for manager Sir Alex Ferguson to choose from and Bruce may be looking to his former defensive partner at Old Trafford to help boost his squad for the coming season.
