The Spanish international, who was in Jose Camacho's World Cup squad, and has also been selected by new national team coach Inaki Saez, is high on Sir Alex Ferguson's list of targets to deputise for the injured Fabien Barthez.
As exclusively revealed on planetfootball.com, the Valladolid shot-stopper has been the subject of interest from The Red Devils.
Although other reports claim Boavista's similarly-named Ricardo is the top target, and Estonian number one Mart Poom from Derby County has again been forwarded as the new man in one report.
However, it is understood that the 30-year-old Spaniard is very much in the frame, probably in a permanent deal rather than a loan arrangement.
"There is still nothing done but my representatives are flying over there," admitted Ricardo on Wednesday evening.
With time running out before the transfer deadline, Ferguson will be hoping to bring in a third quality keeper to provide cover for Barthez and compete with Roy Carroll for a starting spot.
As for the hunt for a new full back, Barcelona's Michael Reiziger has been suggested in Catalunya as a name on Ferguson's hit-list.
The Dutchman was a target for United some time ago, but has recently expressed his desire to remain at Camp Nou after being linked with a move to Chelsea as part of any deal that would have taken Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to Barca.
Julien Escude was the top target, but Ferguson claims his bid for the Rennes defender is now dead, and the Scot may decide to wait until January if he cannot get the right man in.
