The Frenchman's current deal expires at the end of the season, but he is close to pledging his long-term future to the club in the next few weeks.
Silvestre admitted he is settled at Old Trafford and more than happy to extend his stay at the club.
"It won't be long. I will sign before Christmas," Silvestre told the club's radio station.
"My family and I are settled in Manchester, and United is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
"My wife spoke good English before we came, so that made things easier. Everyone working at the club is really nice so that makes this easy for you and you can concentrate on your football."
Silvestre has impressed at centre back in recent games after being forced to play there due to injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Laurent Blanc and he admitted he would like to stay there.
"My move wasn't planned by the manager or me, but during the game in Basel I moved into the central position and I've been there since," he said.
"I know I can handle it so it's not a problem for me or the other players. I'd like to play there more later in my career - you have less to do so it's easier as you get older!
"You have more responsibility in the centre, which I like. But if I have to play full-back against West Ham that will be fine."
