ESW took into account Bayer Leverkusen's terrific Champions League run, and star man Michael Ballack, who moved on to Bayern Munich in the summer, was a worthy winner of their player of the year.
His former team Bayer picked up the team of the year award, and along with Ballack - defender Lucio was also named in the all-star team.
The German side's game against Premiership outfit Liverpool picked up the game of the year vote, whilst Auxerre's Guy Roux was handed the manager of the year award.
Luis Figo and Roy Keane did not impress the panel - picking up the biggest disappointment and most overrated awards respectively, whilst Zinedine Zidane's goal against Bayer that won the Champions League for Real Madrid was considered the goal of the year.
