The featherweight winger has been unable to force his way into the first team reckoning at Old Trafford, despite showing flashes of genuine potential, and has already admitted that he is considering his future.
It has been suggested that Sir Alex Ferguson will bid to use the England Under-21 international as bait in an attempt to break the deadlock regarding United's offer for Sunderland striker Bellion.
However, with the Frenchman out of contract in the summer, there is also the prospect that Ferguson will simply wait before snapping him up with a tribunal fixing the fee if The Black Cats cannot agree a price.
Sunderland have revealed they want to keep their young forward, but he has indicated his desire to leave Stadium of Light.
Chadwick is perhaps an obvious candidate to be used as a bargaining chip, although he did perform well in the Worthington Cup win over Burnley, and may yet be able to convince Ferguson that he has a future at the club.
Hence, a straight cash deal in the region of £1 million would seemingly still be United's preferred option of purchase.
Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs has stressed he is not concerned with his alarming lack of form.
The Welsh international was jeered when substituted after an anonymous display against Blackburn Rovers, but has made it clear that he is not suffering a lack of confidence.
Indeed, the left winger asserted his desire to be an ever-present for the remainder of the campaign.
