The Spanish international has seen Roy Carroll deputise for Fabien Barthez recently in the FA Cup tie with Portsmouth, and is competing with the Irishman for the right to be number two to the Frenchman.
After adapting well to life in Manchester, the former Real Valladolid man wants to improve his English in order to enhance his prospects of achieving his goals with The Red Devils.
"I have adapted very well," he claimed. "I am acclimatised now and it has been very easy.
"The club has helped, and so have my team-mates.
"The truth is that I am very happy.
"I can speak a little English. I am progressing and, every day, I can speak a bit more.
"In Valladolid, we also have a lot of rain and I am accustomed to a bad climate.
"For me, the most difficult thing is not being able to speak English well enough because I sometimes do not understand anything that is said to me."
Ricardo revealed he is close friends with Urguayan attacker Diego Forlan, and also that Sir Alex Ferguson has helped him feel at home at Old Trafford.
"I get on very well with Diego Forlan because he speaks Spanish," he told Don Balon.
"But, little by little, my English is getting better and I will be able to speak with the rest of the team.
"Ferguson is a very nice person who speaks to us a lot. He met me on my first day.
"He was very nice and introduced me to all the players. He likes to have a good relationship with all the players.
"Also, he has a great character and an enormous personality, that is transmitted in all the games.
"He is one of the best coaches I have worked with."
The competent keeper is hopeful of winning his international place back with Spain, but admits you cannot predict the future.
"It is difficult because there are many great goalkeepers in Spain," he admitted. "I have never lost hope and I believe that I will return one day.
"At Manchester United, there are three goalkeepers - Fabien Barthez, Roy Carroll and myself.
"When you sign for a club, they do not say if you are going to play, but they sign you because they like the way you play.
"From then on, you have to be prepared to play when the team needs you.
"A footballer can never say that he will play on a certain day.
"I was accustomed to playing every week at Valladolid, and I have had to change my mentality.
"I have to train very hard and be prepared because I never know when I am going to play.
"Only time will tell if I complete my three-year contract.
"At the moment, I am very happy with my new life.
"For now, I am only thinking about playing here.
"But you never know what will happen in the future."
