The French shot-stopper is one of the most sought-after players in Europe with Arsenal, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich all linked with a move for him.
Reports in his homeland suggest that United have contacted Parma about his possible availability as they seek a possible replacement for Fabien Barthez.
Barthez is facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford as United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have decided to offload the World Cup winner.
The 31-year-old is expected to be sold in the summer with former club Monaco believed to be interested in bringing him back to France.
Barthez is reported to be willing to quit United, but only if they pay up the remaining two years of his contract.
Ferguson has failed to be convinced that Roy Carroll and Ricardo are able to establish themselves as first choice at Old Trafford and has been linked with a number of keepers including American ace Tim Howard, Turkey's Barcelona-bound Rustu Recber and Leeds star Paul Robinson.
Frey has now joined the list of targets although a move seems unlikely as the player himself declared he was happy to see out the last three years of his contract at Parma.
