The French international prefers to play in the middle of the defence, and claims he has been granted his wish as Ferguson looks to cover injuries to Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and Gary Neville.
"I have seen that I could play as left full back or central defender," he stated.
"But there will be a change next season. The club is looking for a left full back and I will play in the centre.
"Everyone can change his mind, even Alex Ferguson.
"I am very happy with this improvement. But, anyway, I had fun at that position."
United have been eyeing Rennes defender Julien Escude and Brazilian Arthirson, but there have been more links with centre backs recently, including Middlesbrough's Gareth Southgate and Marseille stopper Daniel van Buyten.
Silvestre also criticised domestic rivals Arsenal for their arrogance last term.
"The Arsenal players went too far saying in the newspapers they will not lose a match until the end of the season," the 25-year-old told L'Equipe.
"You can't be more explicit to annoy a direct opponent.
"They have quality, but they should be quiet. They didn't show any humility.
"Things can change quickly. I think we respect our adversaries a little more.
"When you win 3-0, you don't have to tease.
"I can understand, in France, people are always talking about Arsenal. But, sometimes at Manchester, we are a little disappointed about this excessive media coverage.
"Manchester are the second greatest European club - Arsenal can't compete in the same category. Our past makes the difference.
"There is no comparison on the international interest."
