The Manchester United youngster joined the Midlands side for their pre-season tour to France, but as yet no deal between the clubs has been agreed.
Stewart, who has also been interesting Burnley this close season, is keen to join Forest and is hoping an agreement can be reached.
"Michael is desperate to go to Forest and things should be a lot clearer by the beginning of the week," said Wright.
Meanwhile, manager Paul Hart is set to run the rule over former Walsall man Danny Sonner after giving the midfielder a place on the bench in Saturday's friendly against Scunthorpe.
On the injury front, Gareth Williams has revealed he has to be patient in his battle to return to full fitness.
The midfielder underwent surgery in June to cure a shoulder injury, and has been playing catch up with his colleagues ever since.
"Hopefully, it will not be long before I reach full fitness. I have got to be patient," he said.
"I know I have to wait a while, but I'm sure it will not be too far into the future before I make a return. I'm aiming to return in four weeks."
