The ex-Real Valladolid custodian spoke in glowing terms of his short stay at Old Trafford and claimed the experience had definitely been worthwhile.
"For me signing for the Cantabrian side (Racing) is not a step backwards, and not one I took on impulse," said the 31-year-old.
"When the offer arrived, the possibility of returning to Spain appealed to me.
"I missed the Spanish league, having watched it on television, and after discussing it at length with my family we decided to come to Santander.
"I have words of thanks for Manchester United.
"They treated me with huge cordiality, and the people there made sure it was a beautiful experience that was worthwhile, so I only feel thanks towards United."
Ricardo has put pen-to-paper on a season-long loan deal at El Estadio Sardinero, and will complete a permanent move to Santander at the end of the term if he impresses sufficiently.
He added: "Racing has always been a club that I liked.
"There were a host of factors that pleased me, and for that reason we reached an agreement.
"I arrive with a great deal of excitement, and will enjoy the Spanish league and try to help the team."
The experienced shot-stopper admitted he was also targeting a return to the Spanish national squad, and was hopeful he could push his claims with Racing.
"Firstly I must acquaint myself with the city and my team-mates.
"The Spanish national team is obviously something that I am driven by, but big things always seem to come about when you least expect it."
