With Fabien Barthez having left Manchester for Marseille, defender Daniel van Buyten has been speaking about his desire to move to the north of England.
"I certainly think my physique and style of play is well suited for English football," the six foot five inches tall player told The Sun newspaper.
"In England, you need strong defenders to take on the strikers, and I can do that."
Van Buyten said he would be speaking to Barthez about life at Old Trafford, having also been advised to come to the Premiership by his friend Lamine Sakho, currently on loan at Leeds United.
"I would like to play alongside Rio Ferdinand," Van Buyten said.
"At the moment, I feel able to play alongside him - and to be at such a club like United would be great for me."
According to reports though, Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be ready to offer £10 million for the Belgium international to replace Ferdinand in case he is handed a lengthy suspension by the FA.
25 year old Van Buyten first started courting interest from Premiership clubs this summer, when he declared that both Newcastle and Manchester United were tracking him.
And the Belgian international has let it be known that he would be more than happy to leave Marseille for one of the European giants, seeing the French side's current Champions League campaign as his shop window.
"I am enjoying playing in the Champions League with Marseille and I am very happy that a big club like United is watching me," he said.
"It means I am getting recognition for my hard work and I am going in the right direction with Marseille.
"I want to do as well as I can for Marseille - and go as far as we can in the Champions League.
"But next season I want to be part of one of the biggest clubs in the world."
