Howard has proved a major success for the Premiership champions since his summer arrival from MLS side New York/New Jersey MetroStars.
The 24-year-old immediately established himself as first choice at Old Trafford and his impressive form has contributed to Fabien Barthez's Red Devils downfall.
But there are fears Howard could be missing from Sir Alex Ferguson's plans in January due to USA's involvement in World Cup qualifiers.
Bruce Arena's men set off on the road to Germany 2006 in the New Year and Howard is likely to be included in the squad.
If he is selected, Howard would miss a Premiership trip to Wolves and also a possible Carling Cup semi-final clash.
To avoid any disruption, Howard has called on his club manager and national coach to discuss the situation and reach an amicable solution.
"The possible clash is a concern and I'd prefer it if Sir Alex and Bruce deal with it," said Howard.
"You always want to play for your country but also for your club."
