The defender was much-criticised for his showings when he returned to the first team after an extended spell on the sidelines.
However his recent displays at the heart of The Red Devils defence have led to calls for the 24-year-old to be included in Sven Goran Eriksson's England squad for this summer's finals in Portugal.
Ferguson has steadfastly stood by his young defender throughout the season and has attacked the critics who were slating Brown for his displays just a few weeks ago.
"The people who are now saying Wes should go to Euro 2004 are the same as those that were slaughtering the guy and saying he was finished," stated Ferguson.
"I made my point about Wes last week, he is one of the best natural defenders in the country and my opinion hasn't changed.
Brown's return to form has come at a welcome time for the club after they lost Rio Ferdinand to suspension.
Despite his excellent efforts in the rcent games against Arsenal, Ferguson believes playing in Portugal for his country during the summer may be a step too far.
"I think he needs a break," he explained. "He's come through an awful lot this season.
"It is not easy at his age to comeback from two cruciate injuries and a broken ankle. People seemed to forget that when they saw his recent performances.
"I've great admiration and respect for the guy but I think he'll need a break."
