Chadwick is believed to have inked a one-year deal with The Hammers after clinching his departure from The Red Devils.
The 23-year-old never fully established himself at Old Trafford, only sporadically featuring for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Though he was taken on the club's pre-season tour of the United States, he has quickly tied up his move to Upton Park.
Chadwick spent last season on loan at Burnley and had a three-month spell with Reading at the latter end of the 2002/03 campaign.
He knows Hammers manager Alan Pardew from his stint at The Madejski Stadium and he now has the chance of regular first team football.
Pardew is looking forward to working with Chadwick again and feels the former England Under-21 international will prove a hit with the club's supporters.
"I am delighted to have signed a player with great potential," Pardew told the club's official website.
"Luke did well for me when I took him to Reading and I expect him to become an exciting and important part of the squad.
"He is certainly a player the fans will enjoy watching."
