The defender damaged knee ligaments in a training session with the Turkey squad on Friday.
The international was forced out of Saturday's 2006 World Cup qualifier against Georgia with the problem and will be sidelined for around three weeks.
He admits he had little choice but to withdraw from training with his national colleagues, rather than risk further aggravating the injury.
"I felt a pain in my knee and had to pull out of training," Cetin told his club's official website.
The injury definitely rules the 23-year-old out of Fenerbahce's opening Champions League fixture at home to Sparta Prague on September 15.
But the former Denizlispor stopper is battling to be ready for the trip to Old Trafford on September 28.
