Man Utd keeper Tim Howard will benefit from a break, according to his manager.Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson feels goalkeeper Tim Howard will benefit from a break from the first team.
Howard was axed for Monday's 2-1 triumph at home to Liverpool following a series of mistakes this season.
The United States international was replaced by Roy Carroll in the team and was also omitted from the substitutes' bench.
The shot-stopper's exclusion from Ferguson's plans comes after a promising debut season at Old Trafford after his arrival from New York/New Jersey MetroStars.
Ferguson believes Howard's blip is not unexpected and he had no qualms in dropping the 25-year-old against Liverpool.
"It wasn't a difficult decision to make because Tim would be the first to agree he needs a spell out," said Ferguson.
"You often find with young players that they float along on gossamer wings in the first season, everything is so wonderful, and sometimes they don't see the blips ahead.
"Tim has hit a little blip, all young players hit them, and the best thing to do in those circumstances is to take him out of the team."
