Tim Howard believes he was harshly dropped by Manchester United.Tim Howard believes he has been harshly frozen out of the first-team picture at Manchester United.
The American keeper has been overtaken in the Old Trafford pecking order by Northern Ireland international Roy Carroll after a couple of indifferent displays.
Carroll stepped in and performed with credit during a difficult period for The Red Devils, but Howard feels he was not solely to blame for United's poor defensive performances.
Howard was guilty of a couple of major blunders against Bolton and Lyon, but feels the rest of the team need to take their portion of the blame.
"A goalkeeper is a very convenient scapegoat," Howard told Sports Illustrated. "But I am always going to own up to my mistakes.
"Did I lose us games? No. Did I contribute to it? Yes.
"But it takes 11 of us to win and 11 of us to lose."
Despite his frustration, the American claims he will bide his time and wait for his chance.
"For me it's really about level-headedness," he added. "Sitting on the bench and being one play away from being a starter again, there's a lot worse things going on in the world."
United, meanwhile, have agreed to play a game in China as part of their Far East tour next summer.
