The goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of the season but is stalling over committing his future to the club.
Carroll joined United from Wigan Athletic over three years ago and had largely been a peripheral figure until this season.
But the Northern Ireland international has usurped Tim Howard as Ferguson's first choice, following a series of blunders by the American keeper.
The 27-year-old has impressed in Howard's place and is enjoying his first sustained run in the team since moving to Old Trafford.
That has yet to persuade Carroll to sign the terms on offer but United boss Ferguson is hoping the goalkeeper will follow team-mate Wes Brown's lead and pen a new contract.
"We hope there will be a change of mind and that he will stay," Ferguson told the club's match day programme.
"At the moment Roy is the first choice because he has performed well and he has never let us down."
