The young goalkeeper joined the Championship outfit on an initial three-month deal in September and has impressed between the posts.
Sky Blues boss Peter Reid admitted last month that his United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson had given permission for Steele to stay at Highfield Road.
The paperwork has now been finalised and the 20-year-old is happy he will be gaining experience in The Championship, rather than playing for The Red Devils' reserves.
"So far my loan period has been more than I expected," Steele told Coventry's official website.
"I have learnt loads and it has given me good experience so I can't really see me going back and playing for the reserves.
"I don't think playing for the reserves is going to be more beneficial for me than staying here and playing in the first team and training with the first team all the time."
Steele has made 18 appearances for Coventry and Reid has been buoyed by extending the keeper's loan until the season's end.
Reid commented: "Luke has been brilliant for us and it's terrific news that he'll be with us until the end of the season."
