Walsall have missed out on the loan signing of Man Utd youngster Sylvain Ebanks-Blake.Walsall have missed out on the loan signing of Manchester United youngster Sylvain Ebanks-Blake.
Saddlers boss Paul Merson is looking to pep up his squad and enquired about borrowing United starlet Blake, while he is also keen on Kieran Richardson and Chris Eagles (pictured).
Richardson and Eagles have both featured regularly in the Carling Cup this season, while Ebanks-Blake made his Red Devils debut in the third round of the competition against Crewe Alexandra.
But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has blocked the prospect of any of the troika heading out of Old Trafford on a temporary basis.
Merson admits his initial enquiries concerned Richardson and Eagles, before he made a move for teenage striker Ebanks-Blake.
The Walsall chief was disappointed not to snap up one of the youngsters but understands Ferguson's reasons for the snub.
"I have enquired about players who I thought would be good in our team but none of them have been allowed to come," Merson told the Express & Star.
"It is difficult because they have two reserve teams and they have to make sure they have enough players to fulfil all their fixtures.
"I asked about Blake, who I think could have done us a job, but they said no.
"The kind of players you would take are the likes of Chris Eagles and Kieran Richardson but they just won't let them go."
