Hearts reject Hartley bid

Hearts have tuned down Celtic's bid for midfield star Paul Hartley.

Hearts have turned down Celtic's bid for midfield star Paul Hartley.

The 28-year-old has been one of the SPL's star performers this season and Celtic boss Martin O'Neill wants him at Parkhead.

Celtic have failed to meet Hearts' valuation with their opening bid, but they are expected to mount a renewed bid - with players possibly offered in exchange.

"There is not a lot we can do. It is a difficult situation for everybody," said Hearts boss John Robertson.

"The bid does not meet our evaluation of the player so it was rejected.

"We are desperate to keep our best players but we are sympathetic from Paul's side, but this is not just for Celtic's benefit. He is one of our best players, and we want to keep him."

Meanwhile, Hearts have confirmed they have taken Manchester United youngster David Fox on trial with a view to a loan deal.

"We just have to see what he is like," added Robertson.

Hearts continue to look at Lithuanians Saulius Mikoliunas, and Kizys Hjalmar who Robertson is considering signing on a short-term basis, while Icelander Halmar Thorarinsson has also come under his gaze.
