Tim Howard has started talks with Man Utd over a new deal at Old Trafford.Tim Howard has started talks with Manchester United over a new deal at Old Trafford.
The USA international had a superb start to life in The Premiership after his move from Major League Soccer, but his form has slipped alarmingly in more recent times.
Howard has had to share the number one spot with Roy Carroll this season and the two are both still in the dark as to who will line-up in the FA Cup final.
Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be in the market for a new keeper, but the Scottish coach still obviously believes that Howard has a future at the club.
"Tim's people have been in talks with David Gill, so we are on the move with that one," Ferguson told MUTV.
"He is still a young goalkeeper who needs experience. That is the area we know we see improvement in him."
The 25-year-old is thought to be in line for a four-year deal, and he seems the more likely to become the regular with Carroll's situation still unclear.
The Northern Irishman has so far failed to pen a new deal and can walk away from United on a free transfer in the summer when he current deal expires.
Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs have also so far failed to sign new deals, but it seems as though Howard is keener to pledge his future to The Red Devils.
