Released goalkeeper Roy Carroll says he would have liked to stay with Man Utd.
Roy Carroll insists he would have liked to stay with Manchester United, after he was released following his failure to reach an accord with the club over a new contract.The keeper was let go by the English giants after they refused to match his wage demands, although he had remained hopeful of hammering out a deal as the season drew to a close.
With Tim Howard penning a fresh agreement in recent weeks, and Sir Alex Ferguson looking to bring in a new shot-stopper over the summer, Carroll's days were numbered at Old Trafford and the club duly chose to release him.
The 27-year-old has already been linked with a host of clubs after making 34 appearances for The Red Devils this season, and Carroll insisted that he would have preferred to stay at United if they had offered a more suitable deal.
"I've had four great years and I want to thank Sir Alex and the staff, but I have to move on," said Carroll.
"I am a little disappointed because I would have liked to have stayed.
"But I felt the deal being offered just wasn't right and I'm looking forward to playing for another good club."
