Jones seals year-long loan

Manchester United have loaned David Jones to Preston North End for a year.

Manchester United have loaned David Jones to Preston North End for a year.

Sir Alex Ferguson has decided that the promising midfielder will not be competing for a first team spot, despite featuring in much of the pre-season campaign.

Jones captained the successful reserve team last season and was the brightest performer in the embarrassing goalless draw with Exeter City in the FA Cup third round at Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old follows the same path that David Beckham took to success as he had a spell on loan at Deepdale before reaching superstardom at Old Trafford and now Real Madrid.

"I spoke to Sir Alex Ferguson when I came back after the month break and he was keen for me to go on loan somewhere this season," he told Whites World. "And Preston is the perfect club for me.

"Preston is a great club and I'm delighted to be here.

"Beckham has come here before and, hopefully, I can do what he did, because he did well here and went back and had a big impact at Manchester United.

"The club did really well last season and my dad followed the club as a kid, so I know a lot about them."
