Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre wants an international recall.Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre hopes his impressive start to the new campaign will earn him an international recall.
The 28-year-old stopper is not currently in France's squad but nevertheless remains hopeful that fine form in Premiership action will lead to a call-up.
With veteran Lilian Thuram back in contention after coming out of retirement Silvestre's path to a regular place looks blocked at present - especially when allied to the fact he was openly critical of France coach Raymond Domenech last year.
However, the player remains desperate to represent his country and is keeping the door open for a recall as the World Cup in Germany looms on the horizon.
"Of course, I would like to play in the World Cup with France," he told his club's website.
"But at the moment I just have to concentrate on my football with United. The only way I can get back into the squad is to play well at club level.
"I've not been in the squad a few times now, so I've been keeping Paul Scholes company on the international breaks."
Meanwhile, it has been suggested that United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suffered another setback in his attempts to return from a long-standing knee injury.
"He has picked up a tear inside his knee. It is a very recent injury," Swedish knee specialist Lars Petersson told Norwegian newspaper VG.
"I thought he might be back in October but it is impossible to set a date now.
''I am never 100 percent sure in these cases."
