John Shittu has accused Sir Alex Ferguson of attempting to ambush Jon Obi Mikel.
John Shittu, the agent of John Obi Mikel, has accused Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson of attempting to ambush the 18-year-old as the summer's longest running transfer saga rumbles on.
Ferguson and United chief executive David Gill flew to Norway on Monday to meet with Lyn's football director Morgan Anderson to finalise a joint submission to Fifa regarding the player's protracted transfer.
However, Shittu claims that Ferguson was acting surreptitiously and had travelled with the intention of arranging a meeting with Mikel.
"Ferguson was not in Oslo to talk to Lyn. He was there to ambush Mikel," Shittu told VG.
"When Mikel went to the Lyn offices yesterday he was asked to go to Stein Hoff's office to discuss the last match.
"Ferguson was in the office and Mikel was shocked."
Both Anderson and Ferguson have strenuously denied that the latter intended to convene a meeting with Mikel.
"I would like to stress that at no stage was there any intention to hold a secret meeting between the player and Ferguson," said Anderson.
"Mikel's lawyer has told us that we should not arrange meetings between Mikel and United.
"We are following that but this shows the type of person Shittu is, he is not as trustworthy as either Gill or Ferguson."
Ferguson is also critical of Shittu's involvement in the acrimonious impasse.
"We feel there are some restrictions here and that is sad because he is only a young lad," said Ferguson.
"I believe that Shittu is responsible for this.
"We have signed a contract with Lyn and followed him since he was 16.
"It's a tricky situation but it's up to Fifa to settle it now. We will be happy with their decision and follow it."
That decision is expected to be reached by the end of October, with Shittu insisting that his client had been bullied into signing an agreement with United.
