Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed winger Lee Martin is being loaned to Antwerp
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed winger Lee Martin is being loaned out to feeder club Royal Antwerp.
The former MK Dons starlet will pick up some experience in Belgium as United's reserve team will have a very different look about it in the second half of the season.
Martin, a quick and lively wide man, was taught a harsh lesson in the Carling Cup tie against Barnet when he was subjected to some heavy challenges - something that his style will inevitably attract.
Adam Eckersley and Richie Jones have also been linked with temporary transfers to Antwerp, but Ferguson has only confirmed the Martin deal.
"We think that's the right education for him," Ferguson told Manchester United Radio.
"The change to reserve team football over the last two or three years has been quite significant due to the fact that all Premiership clubs are now playing young players in the first team.
"We feel some of our youngsters need that step up against older professionals and that's one of the main reasons why we've got eleven players out on loan at the moment."
Coach Andy Welsh is also heading to Antwerp, to work as assistant manager in Belgium, but confirmation regarding Eckersley and Jones has not yet been received, despite Antwerp announcing they are due to arrive early this month.
