Ipswich Town boss Joe Royle has failed with an ambitious loan bid for Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi.
The New Jersey-born starlet has been in outstanding form for United's reserves all season and won the man-of-the-match award in the FA Cup demolition of non-league minnows Burton Albion.
The teenager has not seen a minute of action since that Old Trafford display with Louis Saha's return to form and fitness ensuring he has not even had a place on the bench for the wins over Fulham and Portsmouth.
Nevertheless, Sir Alex Ferguson is very protective of his promising forward and does not want to loan him out at this stage.
"We did ask about Rossi some while ago and it was a non-starter," complained Royle.
"I have two players in mind and I'm hoping to find out from their managers some time on Monday.
"I would rather wait for the right person as we are going along quite nicely at the moment."
Meanwhile, Ipswich defender Scott Mitchell has been told to find pastures new after being informed he will not receive a new contract in the summer.
The 20-year-old has made just four first-team appearances for Town, having seen his progress hampered by groin and ankle injuries.
