Mikael Silvestre is relishing the increased competition for places at Man United.
Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre insists he is relishing the increased competition for places at Old Trafford.
Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to spend £12 million on defensive duo Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra during the January transfer window heightened speculation over the former Internazionale player's future.
A move to Ligue 1 champions Lyon was widely-mooted but the recently reinstated French international decided to remain at United instead.
Despite being shunted out of his preferred central defensive position and in to a left back berth in recent matches, Silvestre claims he has no qualms over extending his six-and-a-half year association with The Red Devils.
"The club signed two new defenders during the winter so there really is competition but I am ready for the challenge," Silvestre told MUTV.
"The manager did tell me I would be playing less so I had to step up if I wanted to play but I like it.
"Being part of United and always starting games is really important to me, no matter what position. It is what drives me on in training."
