Luke Steele and Paul McShane could both depart for West Bromwich Albion as part of the deal that takes Tomasz Kuszczak to Manchester United.
Reports in the Midlands claim the United youngsters will join The Baggies on loan instead of their number one target - striker Giuseppe Rossi.
Sir Alex Ferguson has, a little surprisingly, showed great determination to conclude a deal for Kuszczak, despite Bryan Robson's reluctance to let the Polish keeper leave and the encouraging form of Edwin van der Sar's deputy Ben Foster.
With Kuszczak poised to seal his dream move, Foster is likely to be farmed out to Watford on loan for another season.
Steele only recently joined Coventry City on loan for the second time in his career, but it is felt that move could be scrapped if a similar deal is struck with West Brom instead.
Centre back McShane enjoyed regular football with Brighton & Hove Albion during a loan stint at The Withdean Stadium last season and has caught the eye with all-action displays for the first team in a couple of pre-season friendlies.
