Smith set for action

Alan Smith is ready to make his comeback from injury on Monday.

Manchester United's Alan Smith is ready to make his comeback from injury on Monday.

The England international will start for United's reserves at Preston and will make his first competitive outing since he broke his leg in two places playing against Liverpool in February.

The 25-year-old, who is ready to return in his more accustomed attacking role, will partner Giuseppe Rossi as he looks to prove his fitness.

If all goes well he could even be involved in Saturday's Premiership clash with Watford.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will be desperate to have Smith back, given that both Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes are now sidelined through suspension for the next three games.
