Edwin van der Sar believes Paul Scholes could be Man United's ace in the pack.
Edwin van der Sar believes a rejuvenated Paul Scholes could be Manchester United's ace in the pack against Roma.
The Dutch goalkeeper is a huge admirer of his team-mate and believes the midfielder's recent form bodes ill for United's UEFA Champions League quarter-final opponents.
United travel to the Italian capital for Wednesday's first leg clash in fine heart following the weekend's impressive 4-1 win against Blackburn.
Scholes was outstanding against Rovers - a jinking run and shot hauled his team level to quell an Old Trafford upset - and van der Sar is expecting the former England international to deliver once more.
"It is fantastic to have Paul back after his suspension - and in such great form," van der Sar told the Daily Star.
"He was terrific against Blackburn and he's looking very hungry
"I am very happy for him because he's looking sharp."
Van der Sar is expecting a hostile reception at the Stadio Olimpico but has faith in his team.
"Italian fans throw things like firecrackers and flares on to the pitch so there can be a fiery atmosphere," added van der Sar.
"We are feeling confident but this is the quarter-finals of the Champions League and only the good teams are left.
"So we know if we are going to win, we are going to have to work hard for it."
