Roma captain Francesco Totti is 'optimistic' his side can produce a positive result against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.
The two sides meet at Old Trafford on Tuesday and Roma are out for revenge after the crushing 7-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of United in the second leg of last season's European quarter-final meeting.
Roma also slumped to a 4-1 home defeat to Internazionale in Serie A this weekend, but Totti is confident his side will rediscover their form against United.
"A loss like the one with Inter is not easy to explain," Totti told the Italian press. "But we did not give up.
"Inter are a great side and a loss was possible, but our game gives us guarantees and for this reason I'm optimistic for the game against Manchester."
Meanwhile, Roma defender Christian Panucci insists United players intentionally generated a hostile atmosphere ahead of last season's second leg.
The first leg of the quarter-final, which Roma won 2-1, was marred by crowd trouble at the Stadio Olimpico and Panucci believes United profited by using the controversy to add pressure ahead of the second meeting.
"The first match generated so much controversy," Panucci told the Daily Mail.
"United then profited from these circumstances by doing all they could to create a totally unjust atmosphere against us.
"United deserved to win, but some of their players abused this superiority.
"We see this as an opportunity to exact revenge. I have never suffered on the field like I did that day last season."
