French star set to remain at Stade Gerland

Karim Benzema will remain at Lyon for at least another season after he pledged his future to the club. Benzema had been strongly linked with a summer move to Manchester United, with the France international recently drawing praise from manager Sir Alex Ferguson. But the forward has moved to quell the rumours, insisting that he still has plenty to achieve at Stade Gerland. "I want to stay with Lyon next year," Benzema said. "There are still a lot of things to do. I want to win titles with Lyon." Benzema demonstrated his class in the first leg of Lyon's UEFA Champions League clash with The Red Devils as he netted a superb opener in a game that ended 1-1.

However, the 20-year-old was unable to inspire his team-mates to a memorable win at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening as Cristiano Ronaldo struck to condemn Lyon to a last 16 exit for a second season running. And he has rued the away goal his team conceded a fortnight ago when Carlos Tevez struck with just three minutes remaining. "Manchester (United) is a great team in Europe," Benzema continued. "We matched up to their level and we gave them problems on the counter attack. We regret the goal we conceded at (home). You have to turn the page."
